The First Christian Church of Vero Beach is affiliated with the Disciples of Christ, the oldest denomination founded on American soil. The denomination was born in the 1800's and continues to be influenced by its founding ideals of informality, openness, and diversity. Our denomination's vision and mission calls us to be a faithful, growing church that demonstrates true community, deep Christian spirituality, and a passion for justice. Our church is identified with the Protestant "main stream" and is widely involved in social concerns. Disciples have supported vigorously world and national programs of education, agricultural assistance, racial reconciliation, the developmentally disabled and aid to the victims of war and calamity.
Our relationship with other churches
Many people have found the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) to be a “bridge church” that unites people from different denominations and is welcoming to both church-ed and non-church-ed people of all ages and backgrounds. The Disciples of Christ supports unity among Christians of other denominations and churches. Our goal is the restoration of that spirit of unity which is taught by Jesus (John 17) and reinforced through the New Testament writers. We do not believe unity is fostered by divisive tests of fellowship. We maintain fellowship with other Christian faiths. We have no creed but Christ.
Each week we welcome all to the Lord’s Table (communion) as God has welcomed us.
